Endangered BLACK-FOOTED FERRET Facts and Resources

In 1968, after disease and major loss of habitat, there were only 18 Black-footed ferrets left in the world.  Thanks to recovery efforts there are nearly 1,000 in North America today.  The Black-footed ferret is one of the most endangered animals in the world.  Their diet and survival depends on healthy populations of prairie dogs.  Major threats include the sylvatic plague and suitable reintroduction areas.
